Founded in 1999, Artists Alliance Inc (AAI), a non-profit organization on the Lower East Side (LES), launches and strengthens the careers of emerging and mid-career artists and curators through residencies and exhibition opportunities. Firmly rooted in the local community, a longstanding epicenter for creative experimentation, AAI builds new relationships in and increased awareness of contemporary art and curatorial practice through exhibitions and programs presented in alternative and public spaces not usually devoted to these activities. AAI is dedicated to expanding the creative capital of the LES by fostering dialogues among local, national and international artists; curators; and the culturally diverse residents of the neighborhood. As a small arts organization, AAI continually evolves with the changing needs of the artists and curators whom we serve. Through our three principal programs—Cuchifritos Gallery + Project Space, LES Studio Program, Art (Inter)Actions—AAI creates opportunities for discourse, supports economic development with cultural activities, and facilitates connections between contemporary art and the broader cultural community. Since its founding, AAI has remained committed to promoting meaningful and accessible arts experiences for the LES community. We continue to serve our mission to support and exhibit the work of emerging artists and curators and invite the community to participate in all stages of the process.
