Annual Events

The Clemente regularly co-produces staple, free community events, and renowned seasonal festivals with its collaborators including: Open Studios, Three Kings Day, the month long Borimix city-wide multi-disciplinary festival, Arte Pa’ Mi Gente summer festival, International Puppet Fringe Festival, and most recently, eMeLe-K, an annual week long cultural homage / forum to celebrate Dr. MLK Jr.’s legacy, the US Civil Rights movement, and the tremendous contributions of Afro-Latinos.

BORIMIX

Celebrating Puerto Rican Heritage Month each November since 2006. Artists from here and there and in between come together at The Clemente highlighting the impact of our communities on the arts and cultural life of the city, the country, and the hemisphere.

eMeLe-K

eMeLe-K is an annual week-long cultural celebration of Dr. MLK Jr.’s legacy, the US Civil Rights Movement, and the lasting contributions of Afro-Latinos as co-curated by Teatro LATEA.

ARTE PA MI GENTE

Cherished summer weekends of free family friendly programs in La Plaza, our special outdoors space. August matinee and evening events full of creative experiences, diverse range of performances, workshops and vendors with a Latinx sensibility. Arte Pa’ Mi Gente is a site of celebration that offers a sense of belonging to Lower East Side / Loisaida residents.

DÍA DE REYES

The Clemente celebrates in Lower Manhattan the most magical of holidays for children all over the Caribbean and Latin America. For over two decades thousands of families from the community have come to meet the Three Kings, enjoy live Latino holiday music and gifts! Come join us. A co-production with Teatro SEA.

OPEN STUDIOS

Our resident artists open their doors to showcase new work in a wide range of media. Now in its 27th year, the Open Studios initiative is a free and open platform for local arts that builds, sustains, and supports the thriving creative community of the Lower East Side.

International

Puppet Fringe

The Clemente is a proud partner and host of the International Puppet Fringe Festival (IPFFNYC), produced by Teatro SEA. The festival had its 1st edition in 2018, enveloping all public venue spaces of our historic building. The community and critically acclaimed massive occasion features more than 40 events with renowned national and international puppeteers, including film screenings and artist talks. IPFFNYC is the first ever international fringe festival dedicated to puppetry. This event takes place every other year.
