Mission

We aim to build a network of LatinX Playwrights nationwide in order to promote, develop and elevate their work while making their plays accessible to theater makers looking to find the next generation of American Storytellers.

Vision

With New York as it’s epicenter we are forming a group of committed playwrights of Latinx heritage of all backgrounds. Partnering with other theater companies we will offer annual residencies. The residency will consist of two components. One component is a dedicated writers group open to any Latinx identified playwright based in NYC. Meetings will be held 1-2x/month where playwrights bring pages to share and receive feedback on.

The second component is the opportunity to present in a number of festivals. These festivals will be produced by LPC and/or in collaboration with other theater companies. We will also have our annual Intensive where 4 playwrights will be selected from submissions and assigned a Mentor. They will spend 6 months discussing the plays, receiving feedback and meeting with different theater professionals (directors/designers/etc) to further shape the world of the play. The culmination of the intensive will be a public staged reading in the beginning of May 2020 as part of the Latinx Playwright Festival. The festival will also feature plays from the writers group mentors.

Our ultimate goal is to have a Playwrights Circle in every city with a significant theater scene that could interact directly with local theater makers and operate autonomously while being supported under the 501c3 fiscal sponsorship of the flagship Latinx Playwrights Circle company and simultaneously be inducted into the Playwrights Circle Network at large.
