Alexis Mendoza (b. 1972) is a Cuban-born multidisciplinary artist, writer, and curator based in New York. His work—spanning painting, sculpture, printmaking, and installation—interrogates Afro-Cuban traditions through vibrant explorations of color and form. Trained at Havana’s Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes San Alejandro (1988) and holding a master degree in Art History from the University of Havana (1994). Mendoza has organized projects in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Costa Rica, Cuba,England, France, Germany, Mexico, Netherlands, Peru, Puerto Rico, Romania, Spain, Switzerland, and the United States.
A champion of Latin American art, he co-founded the Bronx Latin American Art Biennial 2008, now the New York Latin American Art Triennial organization, where he serves as Executive Director, and is a founding member of BxArts Factory 2014, fostering cultural equity in the Bronx. His publications include Latin America, The Culture and the New Men (2007), Reflections: The Sensationalism of Art from Cuba (2009), and Dear Democracy (2018). Mendoza lives and works in New York City.
