Fonoteca: Bring Records, Take Art

  • CUE Art Foundation 137 West 25th Street New York, New York, 10001 United States (map)

Join us for an evening of music, drinks, record swapping and collective archive-building in support of Fonoteca!

In partnership with CUE Art Foundation, The Clemente Soto Vélez Cultural and Educational Center will present Fonoteca: Bring Records, Take Art, an interactive event led by artist Pablo Helguera. The event will contribute to his project Fonoteca, a new public vinyl library and listening room devoted to Latin American and Latinx music which will be included in Reveladas: Nueva York in Plain Sight.

The project invites attendees to donate or lend Latin music records across all genres, including salsa, bolero, cumbia, merengue, tango, Latin jazz, spoken word, and experimental music. In exchange for their contributions, Helguera will trade limited-edition works and original drawings created specially for the occasion.

Fonoteca builds a public record of Latinx New York through music and the listening histories of the people who contribute to it. The resulting vinyl collection will be permanently housed at The Clemente on New York’s Lower East Side as an accessible public resource.

Free with RSVP here.
