La INCubadora: Capicú! & Nuevayorquinos
August 5 – October 20, 2025
Studio 406, The Clemente
The collectives Capicú and NuevaYorkinos join The Clemente as Micro-Residents as part of Historias, a multiyear initiative charting the transformative impact of Latinx communities on the shaping of New York City.
During their residency, they will develop La Incubadora—a multimedia immersive experience that uses domino and tile game culture as a vehicle to celebrate the Caribbean and Chinese heritage of Lower Manhattan.
Through archival materials, interactive games, and community-driven programming—including workshops, artist talks, open mics, and film screenings—La Incubadora seeks to create space for Black, Brown, and immigrant New Yorkers to convene, connect, and navigate the realities of an ever-changing city, together.
About the Residents:
Capicú ! NYC
Capicú ! NYC is a party and lifestyle brand in the spirit of the "old Nuevo Yol!" It's a celebration of Nuyorican, Afro Caribbean and Latin American heritage through dominoes, DJs, dancing, and more.
NuevaYorkinos
NuevaYorkinos is a digital project by filmmaker and archivist Djali Brown-Cepeda dedicated to documenting and preserving New York City’s Latino and Caribbean culture and history through family photographs and stories. This counter-archive empowers participants to tell their own stories as a radical act of self-determination and liberation.
Residency Support:
La Incubadora is supported by Historias, a multi-year programmatic initiative led by The Clemente in partnership with LxNY and supported by the Rauschenberg Foundation. Historias charts the transformative impact of Latinx communities in NYC through research, artistic interpretations, and public engagement.
