Historias Signature Series:

CRUCES: Thinking in Public Forum

CRUCES: Thinking in Public Forum is a daylong convening of cultural workers, artists, community leaders, scholars, and neighbors, designed as an open, participant-driven space for collective inquiry and exchange. As the culminating event of Sembradas (Phase 1 of Historias), this forum inaugurates CRUCES (Crossings), a signature series of public convenings dedicated to fostering dialogue and collaboration within and beyond the Latinx community. Rooted in the principles of knowledge justice, the forum surfaces collective, situated knowledge and responds to the intentional erasure of culture-specific histories by centering public storytelling, memory work, and shared authorship as vital practices of resistance.

Domino Table Talks

Domino Table Talks (DTT): intimate, intergenerational conversations designed to document the oral histories of coming in unity through the lens of domino culture. Conversations will be captured in audio recordings and videos, which will be shared with the public to offer an exploration of the game's rich history and its intersections with Latinx culture in New York City and beyond. The first two episodes of DTT were presented with Public Art Fund to activate Edra Soto’s Graft sculpture at Doris C. Freedman Plaza.

The inaugural Domino Table Talks featured the following participants: Papoleto Meléndez, Edwin Torres, Frances Negrón-Muntaner, Miguel Luciano, Edra Soto, Francisca Benítez, Papoleto, Esperanza Mayobre, Frances Negrón-Muntaner, Edwin Torres, and Risa Puno.

Remesas y Sobremesa:
Conversations that Sustain and Linger

This series invites you to gather around the table, where the warmth of food and shared meals meets thoughtful dialogue. Drawing on the idea of remittances—diasporic exchanges that sustain connections between communities—these informal roundtables bring key themes of Historias "on the table," transforming often academic or abstract discussions and grounding them into accessible, lived realities. Through public dialogue and collaboration, participants explore the ties between diaspora and origin, with each conversation lingering like a shared meal, nourishing new ideas and perspectives.

Nueva York Chronicles (NY.C)

Launching November 2025

The Nueva York Chronicles (NY.C) is the digital backbone of Historias—a living chronotope that maps Latinx presence across New York City. More than a database, NY.C functions as a time-map: it places geography at the center, organizing content through movements, moments, and acts of collective memory rather than individual biography.

Developed in collaboration with artists, historians, and cultural workers, NY.C supplements institutional archives while rescuing and interpreting untold stories. The result is a growing narrative commons; a dynamic, participatory resource for educators, students, artists, and all those working to reimagine public history from the ground up.
